Sean Keogh Grincell , Taekwondo World Champs Bronze Medallist.

Third Year student , Sean Keogh Grincell (16) of Colaiste Iosagain ,
Portarlington has just finished an amazing third in the Junior (Under
18) 58kg class at the World Taekwondo Championships .This most popular
of martial arts is a form of kickboxing where the competitors use one
centimeter thick pads on their feet and four ounce gloves on their
hands.A heat is normally two rounds of two minutes and Sean progressed
through a gruelling four of these in one day to reach the semi finals
before going on to finish third in the world the following day .
The eleven day event was held in Wellington , New Zealand and an
exhausting thirty five hour trip via England , Los Angeles and
Auckland was required to get there .
The irish team performed excellently with two seniors winning silver
medals and Dylan Fitzgibbon winning gold in the Junior 63kg class.
The competitors wear a white two piece outfit with the crest of their
nation on the chest and their country’s name on their backs.
Upon their return the team were welcomed by parents and officials from
the national federation along with reporters from the newspapers and
radio.Later they were also featured on Ireland AM on TV3.Sean himself
was interviewed by Midlands 103 radio .
The entire Colaiste Iosagain community are very proud of Sean’s
incredible achievement and wish him all the best for the future in his
sporting endeavours .
