Colaiste Iosagain , Portarlington 5K Fun Run .

While the weather may not have been quite as hot and sunny for the second annual staging of the Colaiste Iosagain , Portarlington 5K Fun Run , most would agree the milder conditions were more suited to the physical effort involved . The event organisers hosted a flawless event where participants of all abilities could enjoy the great atmosphere with the people of Portarlington cheering in their hundreds along Main Street .Once again Evan Clancy led the field home , while the first girl this year was Claire Faherty .Christopher Booth also retained his teachers’ ‘crown’ but had to work quite a bit harder this year as Conor Mitchell and Enda Mitchell were hot on his heels -in fact the former was ahead of him until close to the finish .Deputy Principal , Siobhan Higgins speaking to the competitors in the P.E. Hall afterwards reminded them that Conor had been born just days after Christopher and that they had gone to school together and were now teaching together in Colaiste Iosagain , Portarlington .Maybe next year will be his year !The event was again sponsored by school ‘next door neighbours’ , Oakdale Residential Home with Val Moore presenting the prizes .All proceeds were in aid of the school sports fund which had been severely depleted as a result of the students numerous major successes this year including an All-Ireland victory for the First Year Girls’ Basketball team and near miss for the Second Years at the same event , along with the Under Sixteen Boys Football team who narrowly lost the Leinster Final .
Event photographer , once again this year was Frank Smith , editor of the “BUZZ” school yearbook / magazine which records as many of the innumerable activities taking place in Colaiste Iosagain as it is humanly possible to cram into a 7 Euro publication .
