Colaiste Iosagain Stages Hairspray Musical in Under a Fortnight!

With under a fortnight to go preparations are at fever pitch for the first whole school musical to be staged by Colaiste Iosagain in several years . Rehearsals are held after school and even on Sundays !Hairspray is a popular show which has been made into a memorable hit movie starring John Travolta as the female lead’s mother !
Once again Fifth Year Conor Houlihan plays a maternal role and if he’s half as funny as he was playing the female lead’s mother in last year’s Transition Year show ,”Crossing The Tracks “, written by local English teacher , Chris Booth , he will have them rolling in the aisles .
Lead actress ,Second Year , Alex Byrne , has her first starring role in Colaiste Iosagain as Tracy but has attended stage school .
Tadhg Gorman who plays Corny Collins and Shauna Vandendries ( as Penny )are the only others amongst the leads who have performed before on stage in Colaiste Iosagain’s recent productions including Back To The 80s .

Warren Murray may be appearing in his first stage role as Wilbur but has been a highlight of several Christmas Variety Shows in acting , singing and dancing roles . Grainne Smyth ( Motor Mouth Mabel ) , Anna Davis ( as the bitchy character , Amber ) ,Jessica Kenny (Velma )and Jade Levingstone (Prudy ) complete the female cast while Ronan Mullaly plays Link Larkin.
Along with a cast of over seventy students there are dozens more involved from the musicians in the orchestra to the pit singers and of course the Art and Woodwork department have just about put the finishing touches to an amazing set .

Apart from the musical production team of Mr Mitchell and Ms. Hogan and Seery a huge proportion of the staff are also involved in every aspect of the show from putting up signs to hospitality on the night . Or rather nights as the show runs from Wednesday December 10 to Friday December 12 at 8pm. Two matinees for local primary school children have already sold out . Anyone interested in attending is urged to contact the school soon as tickets (at 5 Euro for students and 10 Euro for adults) are selling fast !Tickets are on sale every Tuesday , Wednesday and Thursday from 130-150pm in the school (05786 23407) right up until the day of the show .

Any young or not so young ladies looking for ideas for their big night out could do worse than try the above!
