Showtime!Colaiste Iosagain , Portarlington Does Strictly…

The inaugural Colaiste Iosagain , Portarlington , Transition Year Strictly Come Dancing event took place last Friday night , 24 April .The students involved had been rehearsing for weeks with those not dancing involved in the many activities required to get a show like this up and running including set design and production , advertising sales etc not forgetting the two MCs on the night , Ciaran Finlay and Niamh Henry .
Choreographers, Breda Kelly Lynch and Simon O’Neill performed amazing work in taking a largely inexperienced group and building their confidence to the point that they were able to compete at a most competent level . Their teachers , Noeleen McCarthy and Conor Mitchell and Transition Year Coordinator , Margaret Nolan were delighted with the students hard work .
Joe Kenny and Cliodhna Murphy were winners with the latter’s irish dancing experience obviously paying dividends . Kala Kelly and Adam Rowan took the runner up spot .
Another former irish dancer Shannon Mitchell along with partner , Janie Eglington also impressed greatly throughout rehearsals and on the night . The event was in aid of ‘ Light Up Port’ the group which provides Christmas Street Lighting .
It was inspirational to watch the dancers attitudes change from , in many cases utter terror to polished confidence . In the end they embraced the event , enjoying the glitz and glamour of the costumes (and in the case of at least one boy the fake tan !)
All participants and organisers should be most proud !

Winning style of Joe Kenny and Cliodhna Murphy clear to see here .
