TY Cycle Against Suicide Event

On 15th January 2016, 48 TY students travelled to the RDS in Dublin to attend the Cycle Against Suicide Student Leaders Congress with their teachers Ms N McCarthy and Ms M Nolan. This was a very interesting day for the students with a mix of fun and games but at all times promoting the message that ‘Its OK not to feel OK and and it’s absolutely OK to ask for help’. There were inspirational interviews with many people during the day who have struggled with mental health in their lifetime and have triumphed through the support of others and understanding that there is always someone to listen to you. The host on the day was former Rose of Tralee Maria Walsh and the founder of Cycle Against Suicide Jim Breen. The TY class had entered their project ‘cock a doodle moo’ as part of the congress and TY students Naomi Luttrell and Jake Doyle were interviewed on the day about it and spoke very confidently to the 4500 strong audience of students from all over the country. Another highlight of the day for Colaiste Iosagain was the fact that one of the 10 student leaders was our very own James Watson a past pupil of our school but who is spending this year working with Cycle Against Suicide and promoting the message ‘Its OK not to feel OK and it’s absolutely OK to ask for help’. The students attended this congress as part of their ‘Cycle Against Suicide Ambassador Schools Programme’ which is on-going across many different subject areas for the duration of this academic year.
