Colaiste Iosagain , Portarlington 5k Run In Sixth Year .

Over six hundred students and staff are expected to participate in the sixth school 5k road race (believed to be the only one of its kind in the country )This means that if a student did Transition Year they will have potentially completed all of the races (and have the t-shirts to prove it !).
The now traditional route is down the Bog Road as far as Marian Hill, turn right into Spa Street , around by the leisure centre , up Main Street and back to the school via Patrick Street .Hopefully the community will continue to turn out in their dozens if not hundreds to support the participants .
Guest of honour this year is former Laois hurling manager Seamus ‘Cheddar’ Plunkett .Once again there will be technical assistance from St. Michaels Athletic Club .While there will be prizes for the first three across the line in the Junior and Senior boys and girls categories the emphasis is squarely on participation and fun .
Firm favourite ,Christopher Whittle will be going for a hat trick of victories .The teachers race meanwhile is wide open with previous perennial rivals , Christopher Booth and Conor Mitchell under pressure from amongst others Tom King , David O’Mahony (with a recent 17 minute time to his name ) and Ronan Walsh . Fionuala Cleary will be hard to beat from amongst the staff ladies field but Offaly camogie star Michaela Morkan may give her a run for her money .
Could this be the first year a teacher arrives home overall winner ?
