As a school community we were so sad to hear of the death of our colleague Liam Hogan. Liam was one of us in every respect. Liam was a past pupil who was in the Leaving Certificate class of 2016. After his studies in Maynooth we were delighted that he could to complete his teacher training with us. He joined our staff officially in 2023 as an English and History Teacher.
While Liam was unwell for a number of years he remained a committed and passionate teacher. He accompanied our TY students to Barcelona in April of this year and was due to receive his CID (permanency) on September 1st. Outside the classroom he was heavily involved in the extra curricular life of the school, particularly in the area of sport. He was an avid soccer and GAA fan. Liam did his work quietly and without fanfare. He was very highly regarded and respected by his colleagues and our students. The word special can be over used on these occasions but Liam was a special person. It was a privilege to have him as part of our school community - as a student and member of staff. We think especially of his Mam, Dad, brother and sister and his grandparents at this difficult time.
As a staff we are gathering tomorrow morning for a prayer service to remember Liam. On Thursday the school will be open for any students or parents who wish to sign a Book of Condolences. As a mark of respect the school will remain closed on Friday, the day of Liam’s funeral.
