In an exciting turn of events, Coláiste Íosagáin has been nominated for 20 categories in the upcoming ‘Best of Ireland Secondary School Awards’. The nominations, which were announced last week, recognise the school's outstanding production of last year’s musical, ‘All Shook Up’, a performance that captivated the local community of Portarlington.

The production, directed by Ailbhe Davis, Conor Mitchell, Gavin Shortall, Roxanne McGee, Catherine Rafferty and David O’Reilly features a talented cast of students, stunning choreography, and an unforgettable set design. “We are absolutely thrilled to receive these nominations,” said Mr Conor Mitchell. “It’s a reflection of the hard work and dedication of everyone involved in the production. Our students have poured their hearts into this show, and to see their efforts recognised is truly special.”

The musical, which ran for two matinee shows and three nights last year, earned rave reviews for its emotional depth, vibrant performances, and technical precision. Students from a wide range of disciplines – from acting and singing to lighting and stage management – collaborated seamlessly to bring the show to life.

Several standout performers were also recognised. These include Faith Kenny, Matthew Ryan, Adam Brennan, Ava Murnaghan, Ava Baker and Luke Dunne for best acting. Ava Hennessy, Ava Baker, and Matthew Ryan also received nominations for best vocals. The overall production received recognition for Best Director, Best Set Design, Best Vocal Teacher, Best Costumes and Best Promotion of a show. This is a testament to the tireless work of all staff involved.

The School Musical Awards, which take place annually, celebrate excellence in school musical productions across the region. Coláiste Íosagáin will compete against other schools around the country in various categories, with winners announced at the award ceremony set to take place next week.

For students involved, the nominations are a testament to the power of collaboration and creativity. “Being nominated for such an important award is incredible,” said Faith Kenny, who plays the lead role in the show. “It shows how much we’ve all grown as performers and as a team.”

The entire community has rallied behind the school’s musical program, with local businesses and parents showing their support through ticket sales, donations, and promotions. “Our school has such a talented group of students,” said Ms. Ailbhe Davis. “It’s wonderful to see them get the recognition they deserve.”

The School Musical Awards ceremony will take place on 4th March at the Fairways Hotel in Dundalk. Coláiste Íosagáin will be eagerly awaiting the announcement of the winners, but regardless of the outcome, the students’ achievements on stage have already left an indelible mark on the local arts scene.
